ASHTANGA YOGA

What is Ashtanga? It’s a traditional practice from India and it is the most challenging class we offer at LV Yoga. If you are looking for the ULTIMATE WORK OUT, this is for you. P90X is not anywhere as vigorous and technically difficult as this. Ashtanga Yoga will completely change your body. You’ll become physically fit and strong, increase your mind’s ability to focus and feel less stressed in your daily life.  It’s the “Original Power Yoga” and is an athletic, powerful practice that incorporates breath with movement. As a beginner, don’t be intimidated: you’ll begin in a Mysore (traditional method of practicing) class  learning the Primary series at your own pace, modifiying the postures as needed. You’ll progress through the series over time by working one on one with the instructor. Not Flexible? Don’t worry! It comes over time. Not strong? Again, give it time.  Primary series takes many years of daily practice to master and after completing that, you’ll move into advanced series. It is a practice you can continue working on for the rest of your life.

We offer the following classes in this discipline:

Ashtanga Basics for Beginners: An 8 week special that will introduce you to the Primary Series in our Traditional Ashtanga classes. You get 2 months of unlimited classes for $85! After learning the sequencein these classes, you’ll want to try a led class to pick up the pace.

Led Classes:                                                                                                                                      Ashtanga Level 1-2: A modified class, we adapt the practice to the students’ abilities and move at a  slower pace for those learning the series.

Ashtanga Level 2-3: Full led primary series class for intermediate students.
Traditional Ashtanga: Also known by it’s nickname:Mysore, from the town in India where this practice originates, this is the traditional way to learn and advance through primary series, and the advanced series that follow. The instructor works one on one with the students as they learn the postures and the very challenging transitions. It’s like a private lesson in a group setting. Beginners through advanced students are welcome. This is where the student really develops and fine tunes the practice. We offer early AM and some PM classes. Please note: this type of class is informal and you can show up between the start time and up to one hour after that. Each student practices at their own level and pace. As a beginner, you might initially start with a practice lasting no more than 45 minutes.
